Taschen Books (the publisher, not the format) can either rise or fall to their pop art agenda. Endless compilations of expensive interior stylizings are the carb-y bread and butter even as the porn-y source books protect Taschen’s particularly Teutonic underground cool.
But from all this muck, their film books are remarkable lucid and fresh. I noticed them first while slinging textbooks for University of Washington in Seattle. An intelligent genre interest and image focused overview serves cinema better than any number of academic press wankerings.
